Jim Ridl — "The first time I played with Pat, it was just like...all there, all that heavy musicianship. Right away, it was really very cool. The reason why I chose ‘The Great Stream’ for this situation is that, to me, compositionally, it’s got the most areas to go other places. It’s a very swinging tune in its original form, but it’s also somewhat atonal, very angular. So I took a lot of liberties with it, really just touching in on certain motifs of the tune, and then totally abandoning the rest of it. I hope Pat will dig it."
