about

Originally released as part of the album 'Pianadelphia', a collection of original recordings in which Philly-based pianists would cover a song written by a Philadelphia jazz great. Trudy chose this John Coltrane piece, with this explanation:

“First of all, it’s one of those beautiful melodies. It’s so simple, and so naive, it seems. And it's just the beauty of the song that makes me dig it. I’m further influenced by the tune because it was written by John, and knowing his wife at that time. I called her Nita, and it later changed to Naima. So when Trane composed that song and recorded it, all of that had a personal feeling, because these people were friends of mine. And the musical structure of it, it was just so pretty. I still play it whenever.”
